The world is so full of hatred and the Wicked One, as described in 1 John 5:19 is the ruler of this world. Yes, we have to put him behind us and forge forward as God fearing Christians who truly love justice and the willing sacrifice of our beloved Saviour Christ who laid down his life for all humanity.

If we aren't willing to put on Christ then we are no better then the people who are wicked, those who practice evil ways, hatred, torture, marginalisation, wars, wanton violence, murderers for just the sake of killing have lost all reasoning. The madness of this world does give cause for fear. But as Christ's followers who seeks the Kingdom and walks in the way of truth and put on Christ we will be victorious. Our mission, of course, is to gain as many persons as possible over to the good news of the gospel or kingdom. I know the mission is difficult for many, however, in our love for our Lord who died an ignominious death we can indeed do what we must to try and win over converts from the evils of this world. Father Dan your homily had a great impact upon me and for this, I am thankful to you and to the Holy Spirit that directed you to pen these words.

Blessings to you always.
Terryorangefatcathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04651839740076143090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055186560940117954.post-73731541952512401842013-02-05T10:51:34.835-05:002013-02-05T10:51:34.835-05:00I read your sermon this morning (Feb 5, 2013), and...I read your sermon this morning (Feb 5, 2013), and found it very insightful and encouraging!

It had never occurred to me that in their search for the Light, the wise men alerted Herod and inadvertently left behind a trail of innocent blood.

Shows that evil is so desperate (and irrational) trying overcome the light that it piggy-backs on the search and slaughters many innocents.

Far from saying that evil doesn't exist, we must face and name it, while tightening our grip on Jesus the Christ in whose Resurrection is the sure hope for evil's eradication.

Anyway, you said it very well! Thank you.

Edhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14363715191976421440noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055186560940117954.post-19516695370497136462012-11-15T02:20:11.346-05:002012-11-15T02:20:11.346-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13384935221948534672noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7055186560940117954.post-12416007813447149522012-11-15T02:16:00.287-05:002012-11-15T02:16:00.287-05:00The problem I have is that you are right, and I th...The problem I have is that you are right, and I think any serious reflection would reveal that even if on the surface there is disagreement...even if those surface reasons are genuine.

Canadian soldiers have always been warriors, of course. Yes, in service of our Lord we certainly are enlisted.
Yet, our people can join many a service club for all sorts of reasons and be well grounded in the fellowship and service such clubs can give to the broader community.
To come and kneel/stand/sit before the throne Sunday after Sunday, to approach that throne and receive the blessed food that is our Lord will be but 'a way' on the way--a way for strengthening grace for the journey we are on.
What will this wonderful church of ours look like in a few short years? It is a time of challenge and change--and while there have to be some liturgical changes, let us not throw out the baby with the bathwater. It is theater at its best this fine liturgy of ours, yet it is not simply a 'me me theater' by any stretch of the imagination.
Blessings on the way.
Your colleague, Canon Greg P. I've preached on St. Stephen's day a number of times because my family's parish in Rosseau is St. Stephen's parish. I often happen to be there for their patronal festival and have been invited to preach. The same thing is true of St. Thomas' day which has also be transferred to the summer. Two of the congregations in that parish are dedicated to St. Thomas.

DFG+DFGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07353301856083451865noreply@blogger.com
